A business day is not a universal unit. It is a calendar rule defined by a country, market, employer, institution, or contract, so useful calculations must name the calendar they apply.

What a basic business-day calculator does

The simplest rule treats Monday through Friday as business days and skips Saturday and Sunday. Adding one business day to Friday then produces Monday. This is useful for rough planning, but it is not enough for a deadline affected by public holidays or a nonstandard workweek.
