What is Age Calculator?
An exact age calculator measures completed calendar time from a date of birth to a chosen as-of date. It keeps years, months, and days separate from equal-unit totals, then adds next-birthday, leap-day, and milestone context.
How to use Age Calculator
- Enter the complete birth date and optional local birth time.
- Choose the as-of date and optional local comparison time.
- Select the February 29 rule when applicable, then calculate.
- Read calendar age, elapsed totals, and milestones as separate information.
Features
- Exact calendar age with completed birthdays and leap-day context.
- Elapsed totals through seconds with honest time assumptions.
- Next birthday and upcoming day, week, month, and second milestones.
How the calculation works
Calendar age counts completed anniversaries, then completed months, then remaining days. Equal-unit totals measure the elapsed date gap; optional local times refine hours, minutes, and seconds without converting timezones.
Worked example
For a birth date of May 20, 1995 and an as-of date of July 7, 2026, the result is 31 years, 1 month, and 17 days, with separate totals and the next birthday date.
Calendar age versus elapsed age
Calendar age counts complete anniversaries, complete months, and remaining days using real month lengths. Dividing by 365 or 30 cannot reproduce it reliably.
Elapsed days, hours, and seconds use equal units. They answer a different question and are shown separately from calendar age.
How birth time changes the result
Birth time matters when the comparison moment is on the birthday but before the original time of birth. The next completed year has not yet been reached at that clock time.
Times are local values. Convert both moments to a common timezone before comparing instants from different locations.
Leap-day birthdays and official rules
February 29 has no matching date in a common year, so the form offers February 28 and March 1 conventions for the next birthday.
Official age rules can differ from celebration customs. Verify the required convention for legal, benefits, school, immigration, or insurance use.
Common use cases
- Checking completed age on an application or eligibility date.
- Finding age in days, weeks, hours, minutes, or seconds.
- Seeing the next birthday, leap-day count, and age milestones.
- Verifying manual age arithmetic against calendar-aware results.
Accuracy and limitations
The tool uses Gregorian calendar arithmetic. Date-only totals begin at local midnight; optional times refine elapsed units but do not convert timezones. Cultural zodiac and birthstone details do not affect age.
